Why Grounding?

We recommend that all users ground their OMIOCNC machine. Without proper grounding, the probe (e.g., tool setter) may fail to work correctly in certain environments, or you may encounter unexplainable abnormal behavior.

Note: If your machine operates normally without grounding (for example, the tool setting function works correctly and no anomalies appear), you may skip grounding temporarily. However, we recommend completing the grounding as soon as conditions permit to ensure long-term stable operation.

How to Ground Your Machine

Follow these steps to properly ground your CNC router:

  1. Prepare the material.
    Obtain a sufficiently long copper-core cable (cross-section area of at least 2.5 mm² is recommended).
  2. Connect to the machine.
    Attach one end of the copper wire to the underside of the machine worktable, or to any metal screw on the table. Make sure to scrape off any paint or oxidation at the contact point to expose bare metal.
  3. Connect to the building ground.
    Attach the other end of the copper wire to the indoor equipotential bonding terminal (usually found near the distribution panel or in the bathroom). If no such terminal is available, choose one of the following alternatives:
    • A metal water pipe (ensure it is metallic and electrically continuous to earth)
    • A metal window frame (again, verify continuity)
    • Drive a large iron nail or ground rod (at least 30 cm long) into the ground, then connect the copper wire to it

Checking the Grounding Effect

After completing the grounding, you can use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the machine's metal frame and true earth. An ideal value should be less than 4 Ω. If you don't have a multimeter, you can indirectly judge the effectiveness by observing whether the probe (tool setter) starts working normally.
