What Is a Home Switch?

The component labeled as "Limit Switch" on OMIOCNC machines is actually a Home Switch. It is used to determine the origin of the mechanical coordinate system. Its primary function is to let the machine know its current position, so homing (returning to the origin) must be performed before every job to ensure accurate positioning.

Factory Testing & Important Notes

Every machine is thoroughly tested before shipment. If the machine does not respond normally, you can reinstall the software and settings files. After completing the setup, do not make any additional adjustments to Mach3.

Important: If you have two machines that are not exactly the same model and were not purchased at the same time, do not use the same computer to control both. Different models or machines from different production batches require different Mach3 configurations.

Why the Home Switch Doesn't Work – Three Steps to Check

If the homing function fails, follow these three steps:

  1. Check the cable connection.
    Make sure the switch cable is plugged in and firmly connected. Inspect the cable for any damage or poor contact.
  2. Check the software settings.
    The user may not have copied the settings file we provided, or may have changed settings in Mach3.
    Solution: Reinstall the software and the original settings file to restore factory defaults.
  3. Check the operation sequence.
    The user may be performing the steps in the wrong order, so the limit switch is never activated.
    Correct sequence:
    • Turn on the machine power.
    • First click the "REF ALL HOME" button to send the machine back to the mechanical origin.
    • Then click "SOFT LIMITS" to activate the soft limit function.
    After completing these steps, the home switch should work normally.

Spare Switches

The body of the home switch is made of plastic, which is relatively small and fragile. During international shipping, minor impacts may cause it to break. To address this, we have placed 2 spare switches in the accessory box (a translucent small plastic box). If you find the original switch damaged, simply replace it with one of the spares.

If Only One Axis Cannot Home (Check the Cables)

If all the steps above are fine and the switch itself has been confirmed to be working, the issue likely lies with the cables. In this case:

  1. Measure cable continuity with a multimeter.
    Use a multimeter to check whether the cable conducts properly. It is recommended to wiggle or bend the cable while measuring to detect intermittent breaks.
  2. Check the terminal block on the offline controller.
    Inspect the wiring terminals at the rear of the offline controller to see if any screws are loose or wires have pulled out.
