Spindle & VFD

Q :   What speed should I use for the spindle?

A:
The spindle motor of the CNC Router / engraving machine is different from the spindle of the traditional milling machine. Please pay attention to the Spindle Working Speed !
The spindle reaches peak torque/power at 24000 rpm.
The higher the spindle speed, the greater the cutting force.
The lower the spindle speed, the smaller the cutting force.
When processing, the spindle must use a high speed, with a minimum of 15000 rpm and preferably above 20000 rpm. if spindle speed is too low may be caused spindle stalled or VFD burned!

So, depending on the different materials, set spindle speed to 15,000 ~ 24,000 is most appropriate.
1) ABS/PVC/POM/Nylon and other plastic materials use about 16,000rpm.
2) 6061 aluminum and H59 brass use about 16000~20000rpm.
3) Acrylic use about 17,000~22,000rpm.
Different materials should be more testing.

Q :   Can I change the parameters of VFD?

A:
No. Prohibit try to change any setting parameter of VFD.

All parameters of VFD have been set and tested before leaving the factory, and they work normally. The VFD control panel on the control box is reserved for maintenance, and users do not need to operate the VFD control panel.

Whether the user unintentionally or intentionally changes the parameters of VFD, it will result in the spindle not working properly and may cause the spindle or VFD to burn out.

Q :   What should I do if an error code like "Err" is displayed on the LED screen of VFD?

A:
Please contact us and provide us with the specific error code, as well as the actions you took before the malfunction occurred.

Q :   How to maintain the water-cooled spindle?

A:
Some tips about spindle maintenance and maintenance:

1. The cooling water, you can choose either tap water or deionized water. Please add a little antirust into water ( the kind used in water tank of cars is OK).

2. You need to ensure that the water pump runs normally, so that you must avoid the water-cooled spindle lacks water. During operation, please check the surface temperature of the spindle regularly to prevent from a hot spindle.

3. Please measure the temperature of the cooling water periodically, you’d better keep the cooling water within 30 degree centigrade. When the environment temperature is high ( in summer), please use a big-size water tank. When the temperature of the cooling water is rising, you can lower the temperature by adding more water.

4. If you use tap water, please change the water periodically ( change one time in a week)

5. When the temperature in winter is below 5 degree centigrade, please add some anti-freezing solution into the cooling water.

6. If you don’t use the machine for a long time, please use compressed air to blow out the water in the spindle until there is no water in it.

Q :   Can the spindle be set to reverse rotation?

A:
No. The spindle can only rotate clockwise and reverse rotation is prohibited.

Q :   Is the spindle speed (revolution speed) displayed on Mach3 accurate? The numbers displayed on the VFD change as the spindle speed changes. Is there any relationship between them?

A:
The spindle speed under MACH3 control is not true. MACH3 only controls the spindle through the change of voltage signal, and the control precision is not high.

The actual speed is subject to the VFD.

1HZ = 60 revolutions,
400HZ is equal to 24,000 revolutions.

Generally, 300 ~ 400HZ is used when carving. When carving aluminum, wood and other materials, 400HZ can be used directly.

If you have higher requirements for precise control of the spindle speed, you can adjust the spindle speed through the VFD panel (this requires contacting us for special settings on the VFD. For beginners, please control the spindle through Mach3).

Q :   Why does my spindle make a "screaming" sound when running at high speed?

A:
There are two situations:

The first situation:
the spindle has been used for too long, the bearings are worn, and a new spindle needs to be replaced.

Second case:
If it has not been used for a long time (during the production, delivery and freight period), the lubricating grease in the bearing has solidified. Running at low speed for a period of time can make the noise disappear.

The bearings used in the electric spindle are filled with solid high-speed grease, so we can run it at low speed for thirty minutes before use. After these 30 minutes of running-in, we will find that the sound will disappear. In fact, most of this is caused by the electric spindle not being used for a long time. Through such running-in, we will not only make the hissing sound disappear, but also extend its service life.

Q :   Can I get replacement parts if my VFD or spindle burns out?

A:
You can contact us to purchase a new VFD or spindle to replace the old.

Q :   What are the most common causes of spindle failures?

A:
1. VFD preset parameters are modified.
2. Run the spindle at low speed for a long time.
3. The spindle cooling water does not circulate normally.

Note: When using a new spindle for the first time, it needs to run at low speed (less than 5000rpm) for 10 minutes. When actually starting processing, the minimum rotation speed shall not be lower than 12,000 rpm.

Q :   What should I do if the spindle tool cannot reach the material?

A:
See attached picture first.

According to the thickness of the material, the position of the spindle can be adjusted.
If the material is thin:
1. Loosen the screw of the spindle holder and move the spindle downward.
2. Pad a flat plastic board under the material (this is the auxiliary worktable).

If the material is thick:
Loosen the screw of the spindle holder and move the spindle downward.

Note: when cutting board, flat plastic board or wooden board must be padded under the board to protect the worktable.
